PEN MAR PARK Around 1900 some railroads constructed summer retreats usually in the cool mountains. The Western Maryland Railway had one on South Mountain (Virginia's Blue Ridge extended) along the Pennsylvania-Maryland border called Pen Mar, which is what this represents. They were generally park-like with various recreational facilities such as this band stand.
