I've been a fan of the White Stripes since their "White Blood Cells" album, but "Elephant" reaches a higher echelon of musical artistry. It's a throwback to the classic garage sound, but it's so rich in its simplicity that it's deceptive at just one listen. "Seven Nation Army" is a great song, but I love Meg's vocal contribution to "In the Cold, Cold Night". Some say the White Stripes are over hyped, but every album of theirs shows growth and musical advancement, that I am truly looking forwards to what they do next. Jack's not much of a singer, but the songwriting and guitar work is truly impressive, making this one of my favorite albums from the last year.

Three good songs...that's it, March 13, 2004

This CD only has 3 good songs, Seven Nation Army, I don't know what to do with myself, and Hardest Button to Button. The lyrics on the rest of the songs are distracting and stupid. The lyrics distract from the song; they need more accustics in this CD. Jack and Meg are great artists, but they don't use thier ablility well. Don't buy this CD, there's only a couple of good songs and the rest of the songs are songs they made so they could sell an album.

Excellent Album, March 8, 2004

I was turned on to the band after viewing their live appearance on (think) the grammy's. This happened for me last year as well when I saw the Foo Fighters completely ROCK at some european awards show as well. My feeling is that if a band can turn a lame live audience inside out- they deserve to have a listen.

Seven Nation Army is the album's stand out single- and deservedly so - but the rest of the album plays excellently and shows why the Whites have such a diverse following

My personal recommendation is to listen to as many of the cuts on the album as you can to get a sense of whether this is the album you want. I have seen many complaints from readers that they purchased Elephant b/c they loved the single and that they are unhappy with the other songs.
